Why do we value perfect so much?

The dish in this blog is ‘flow blue’ pottery. For those of you who aren’t china lovers, Flow blue pottery originated in the early 1800’s. Its name is derived from the blue glaze that blurred or "flowed" during the firing process. In other words, not exactly as originally intended but in fact even more beautiful.

This particular dish met with an accident at some point in its life and was broken into pieces. However, someone loved it enough to mend it with six hand-made, iron ‘staples.’ - a solution that practically speaking shouldn’t even work!

The fact that it is so unique and imperfect is what makes it even more special to me. Musing over this the other day, I asked myself which of my imperfections I worry about (hint - there are lots) and frankly, why? Could it be that my ‘imperfections’ as I perceive them are actually my biggest strengths and most attractive qualities? The more I reflected, the more I realized that this perspective is very liberating and allows me to approach opportunities and risk with a very different mindset.

I’ve committed to love what I hate about myself - want to join me?
