What's holding you back?

Meet Dita - the sweetest Schnodle you would ever want to meet.

A few weeks ago, Dita was on her regular walk with my daughter who was busy juggling leash, coffee, phone, etc. At some point in the walk she realized that the only thing missing was Dita! Of course, she panicked. What if she was lost, hit by a car, dog-napped or some other terrible fate? However, when she retraced her steps, there sat Dita a couple of blocks away sitting patiently with her leash on the ground beside her. For Dita, that leash means there’s only so far you can go, whether a human is holding the other end or not!

That started me thinking about the times in life when I have believed that something invisible or frankly, non-existent meant that I couldn’t accomplish something. How many times have I held myself back by thinking, “what if it doesn’t work or what if I’m not good enough?”

Coaching - being coached and being a coach - has made me realize how different those same thoughts can be if the what if comes from a place of curiosity not fear. Imagine how big the world of possibility is when you start from, “What if this turns out to be amazing?” or What if I learn something I didn’t know? or “What if it all goes wrong but I learn something just the same?”

I’ve resolved to start more conversations from possibility and curiosity. Who knows what might happen?
